10 Ridiculously Petty Feuds Between Hollywood Big Shots:
Marlon Brando vs. Frank Oz
The feud: While making 2001’s The Score, the famously reliable and easy-to-work-with Brando (oh sarcasm, you) had some “creative differences” with director Oz.
The origin: Brando decided that Oz—famous for, among other things, being the voice of Yoda and Miss Piggy—was not worthy of giving him acting notes, so he refused to take direction from anyone other than co-star Robert De Niro. Brando sent a doctors note to De Niro that said Brando was allergic to Oz and that he and Oz could not be on set at the same time. The acting legend also refused to call Oz anything other than “Miss Piggy,” and took off his pants so Oz could only shoot him from the waist up. Oz had an assistant director oversee Brando’s scenes, and later said, “When you deal with someone like Marlon, you expect quirkiness.”
Entertainment value: High. Brando’s career was full of stuff like this, leading one of the Coen brothers to say in an interview where they name Brando as the one actor they’d never work with: “You never know whether he’s going to show up on set insisting on playing the part as a bagel.”
